RE: Spare Tire Bike Rack for 2000 Honda CRV

Yes, ten years ago, before my heart attack, the roof was the way to go; but now time is catching up to me and I need an easier alternative. Thus, the rear spare tire mount.
My question of security was more toward preventing theft rather than the "secure nature" of the rack itself. What is to keep a thief from simply cutting the nylon straps and lifting the bikes -- assembly and all -- from the spare?

RE: Spare Tire Bike Rack for 2000 Honda CRV

Thanks, OTTO. I think that's the one I'll go with. I noticed that you secured the bikes to the rack. How did you secure the rack to the tire?

RE: Spare Tire Bike Rack for 2000 Honda CRV

Again -- I do not intend to put a trailer hitch on this vehicle. I am seeking information specifically from anyone who already has a bike rack that is attached to the spare. What brand(s) will work? Can they be locked and secured?

Spare Tire Bike Rack for 2000 Honda CRV

After nine years of lifting the bikes onto the Yakima bike carriers on the roof of our 2000 Honda CRV, I have finally reached the point where it has become too difficult. For that reason, I am looking for a bike rack that will bolt onto the spare tire.
The spare tire is just off center, and the type of carrier that slips over the spare tire will just not do. I also do not intend to put a hitch on this vehicle.
Can anyone suggest a brand name and style that is currently available and appropriate for this specific vehicle?
Yep, I searched; nope, this specific problem was not discussed.

Country Cafe in Cleveland, Florida!

For those of you in the area -- if traveling I-75, Country Cafe is three miles north of Exit 164, and 20 miles south of Arcadia, FL, on SR 17 near CR 74.
Returning to Fort Myers from Lakeland, FL, we discovered this little gem when I missed the turn toward SR 31 in Arcadia, FL, and continued south on SR 17. I'm glad I did.
All entrees are homemade and reasonably priced. Pulled pork sandwiches were featured when we were there. Great stuff! And reasonably priced.
If traveling in your RV, pull into the lot next door, otherwise, park the toad in their lot.

RE: Bike Ladder Racks

Nope -- my response is different.
And if they can resurrect "Places to Go and Things to Do in the RGV" every year, then this ought to be OK too.

RE: DW would not do it! So I Will!

They might work well on a regular toilet that produces a swirl of water around the bowl; but I doubt they would clean more than one spot on an RV toilet that has the water running straight down from the inside of the rim.

RE: Bike Ladder Racks

I agree with Martyn. The ladder on the back of the RV is not a place to transport bikes.
Now -- if anyone has a link to a bike rack that BOLTS onto the spare tire on the back of the toad (Honda CRV), please let me know. I'll gladly trade my roof racks for one of those.

RE: Golf & RV Resort in Pennsylvania

Cayman Landing -- part of Treasure Lake just east of Dubois, PA. Take Exit 101 off I-80 and go east one mile on SR 255.
Two championship golf courses within the 7000 acre complex. Five lakes, two beaches, four swimming pools (one indoors), miniature golf, horseshoes, two poorly maintained shuffleboard courts, excellent food at the clubhouse (especially the Sunday morning buffet), and the ski lodge.
Excellent side trips to see the elk herd at Benezette, or the Straub brewery at St. Mary's, or the winery at Wilcox, Victorian Bellefonte, home of five PA governors, Penn State (don't miss the creamery), The Horseshoe Curve in Altoona, Pa; and minor league baseball teams in both State College, and Altoona.
From Baltimore center, it's a 4-5 hour trip, 226 miles, but still 50 miles closer than Wolf's in Knox.

RE: British sausage rolls

"Repeat a second time."
Would you care to clarify this part of your directions?,
"...roll until the length of the pastry..." is also vague. Does this mean "roll" as into a log, or roll as one might with dough for a pie?
Thanks. (Some of us read literally.)

RE: Gas prices!!!

Tarponteaser,
Our initial offer came in a flyer from a local new car dealer. It declared that we had "won" $300 worth of gas free. That $300, of course, is in the form of twelve $25 gas cards from the fuel station of our choice. We started in October and sent our first voucher and the first batch of receipts totalling $100+
If we do not receive the gas cards as promised, we will visit that same car dealership when we get home next spring. I don't think that they will want the negative publicity that would accompany a scam. If I don't receive the $300 from FreeGas, then I will from them!
Did you call the FreeGas toll-free number to inquire about your submissions? IM me if you need the number.

RE: LOW NUMBERS OF RV'ERS TO MEXICO

I have read the instructions given for indenting paragraphs in RV.Net posts.
It is my firm belief that they were written by the same people who wrote the tax code.

RE: Big three auto makers in big trouble

ggardne2,
I would have read your post, but these old eyes lost their place since you did not separate your paragraphs with a space between them. That many lines is confusing.
Perhaps you indented as you typed. Please note that this is not recognized by RV.net.
RV.net does, however, (according to moderator pulsar) have a tutorial that will teach you how to indent according to their specifications.
Yah, I thought the same thing.....

RE: LOW NUMBERS OF RV'ERS TO MEXICO

These forums have the ability to indent.
But most members don't know how.
Even when there is a tutorial showing how.
I admit that it would be easier if the display engine didn't drop leading spaces,
or understood about tabs.
Most members don't know how!? Are you kidding me? You hit the tab key or you use the space key.
Members should not have to spend time searching for a tutorial that instructs thenm how to manipulate text. Now isn't this just the epitome of stupidity!
By the way, just where IS this tutorial? I searched, but couldn't find it.
(Oh, OK. I didn't really spend a lot of time searching. After all, it's easier to use block form than to jump through the hoops.)

RE: LOW NUMBERS OF RV'ERS TO MEXICO

There may be fewer RVers overall if you include those RVers who are still working, but if you are talking about those of us who are retired; ie, snowbirds and the like, then I would say there are not fewer RVers, but the same number as would be on the road regardless of economic conditions.
Most snowbirds would not let a few hundred dollars make a difference in their winter plans.

RE: LOW NUMBERS OF RV'ERS TO MEXICO

Well, rvmex, help me with these two :
John & Angela wrote "I ... tend to find Mexico a little more laid back with less racial tensions and everything that goes with that."
During our two months in Mexico, our guide into Copper Canyon told us that average Mexicans look down on the Indians; and My wife and I were amazed at the amount of "blackface" comedy on Mexican TV.
Especially this second part -- the blackface comedy. If even a poor imitation of such were to appear on US television, the producers would be pilloried.
PS to Tress -- Your posts would be easier to read if you would put a space between your paragraphs. (And hope that maybe someday, these forums will discover the ability to INDENT!) (Yelling intended here.)

When I am ready to sell mine, it will go as a package price along with the RV lot it's sitting on. If you want one, you take the other with it or no deal.
